Review of The Spirit (2008) by Cathal L — 22 Sep 2013
While still in the middle of the pack of modern comic book adaptations, 'The Spirit' was I think unfairly maligned by a lot of people who apparently didn't get what director Frank Miller was trying to do.
The film features a gallant hero appropriate to the '40s-era comics the character originates from, 'Sin City' styled film noir, camp humor, and some genuine oddness thrown into the mix. It also carries the mark of a visual stylist -- some of the compositions and images on display are truly beautiful, making 'The Spirit' worth a view for this alone.
