Review of The Spirit (2008) by Peter P — 10 Oct 2012
An ok film once you get past the first 20 minutes. I can see where Miller was trying to go, it was pretty big task for a first time director, so saying that the movie could have be worse. The story was fairly simple, the acting ok for the most part, Sam Jackson being the biggest stand out as he usually is, and as a mad scientist wearing a Nazi uniform no less. Gabriel Macht was decent in the lead, and Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansen were both beautiful and adequate in their roles. So overall a movie that will probably be hated by most people but is really not all that bad.
*One pet peeve, for the most part I do not like when Directors give themselves some small part in their movie, and The Spirit is no exception, Frank Miller is a brilliant visual person, writer, artist, but he is not an actor and should have left that for people who do that for a living.
