Review of The Spirit (1987) by Brendan N — 29 Jan 2010
Soul less film in search of a real story and something on the screen. frank miller brings to screen the classic comic with flair sadly the story and characters are not worth the time.
The film has an excellent style but with that the story is in a terrible mess. you are left hanging from the beginning and its a shame. this plays out like a poor mans sin city and by following the same method the movie feels forced and uninspired.
Frank miller has an eye for story but when it comes to this he doesn't seem to be in charge of the actors in front of him. with all the comic book films around this one could of been a breath of fresh air. a film which could of played out like an old film noir. ambitious but very flawed.
