Review of The Spirit (1987) by Ana B — 31 Jan 2010
One more superhero movie. The beginning of this film is almost ludicrous. The story has wholes all over but it is most noticeable in the first 20 minutes, towards the end it seems to pick up pace and the whole plot makes more sense, but by then you might have lost interest altogether.
To me, the factor that saves the movie is the aesthetics. The whole picture is made entirely in black, white and red, indicating a strong link with the graphic novel. The contrasts, the lighting and the whole costumes are also very accomplished. I could almost recommend to turn the volume down and enjoy exclusevely the beautiful cinematography. The rest is completely forgettable.
