Review of The Spirit (1987) by E L — 28 Jul 2012
Not exactly sure what kind of genre or approach Miller was trying to go for here, but it's a mess that tries to ape too many things (like Sin City) and falling far short of its lofty ambitions. I'm all for suspension of disbelief but not a suspension of intelligence.
The actors make do with a very silly script, with Scarlett Johnansson's "whatever" attitude probably containing more than a bit of genuine emotion. In the end it just looked like an unintended parody of itself.
