Saw this film again on 31/01/2014.
I have watched this film over and over again with the intent that I might like it at least once, but as of now this one makes me feel that John Carter and Alice in Wonderland were better entries. Spiderwick Chronicles is a bad book and this film is just too dependent on the poor story of that book. It provides no tension at all and when compared to the good fantasy films like LOTR series, Hobbit series and also the Chronicles of Narnia series, this one is just way too overrated. Even in a bad movie Freddie Highmore shines and Mary-Louise Parker is also bearable. I have mixed opinions about the visuals, they range from good to extremely mediocre. This film has a rushed off ending and except for some good moments you find every 30 minutes, this one is pretty damn hollow.
