Review of The Spectacular Now (2013) by Rae H — 22 Jan 2014
I was apprehensive at first, but as the title states, this movie is simply spectacular. I was blown away by the two young actors in the lead roles. I wasn't the biggest fan of Shailene Woodly in The Descendants so I would peg this a her breakout role.
Miles Teller played the young destructive lost youth to a T. I was even surprised by the cold turn given by Kyle Chandler. I hate to repeat what I've already heard about this movie but it's a very good true to life love story.
Everything isn't pretty and happy and wrapped up in bow. Relationships can be ugly and people get hurt. The director basically reshot his breakout film 500 Days of Summer for the younger crowd. By the way, Bob Odenkirk did very well in a small but important role.
Very highly recommend, even to those who don't like romance movies.
