"The Spectacular Now" is the modern-day "Say Anything", a wildly mature teen drama that avoids cliches and hits you in the gut with a sensitive, often heartbreaking and real love story.
It doesn't sugarcoat the idea of teen romance and it doesn't get off with typically raunchy high school comedy. Miles Teller, a modern day John Cusack, and Shailene Woodley are revelations as Sutter and Aimee.
Their chemistry is so palpable and feels far from scripted. If you want a great teen romance, "The Spectacular Now" is essential viewing.
