Review of The Spectacular Now (2013) by Phillip D — 10 Apr 2016
The Spectacular Now is a great example of a film that I heavily anticipated and enjoyed on the first viewing but has really aged poorly. Looking back on it, The Spectacular Now is well acted and well put together but it's painfully generic in terms of plot and there is nothing terribly gripping about the performances.
Frankly, everything plays out precisely as you would expect, making for an unlikely second viewing. It turns out that The Spectacular Now might just be spectacularly average.
