Review of The Spectacular Now (2013) by Steve W — 09 Aug 2014
The Spectacular Now is a spectacular coming-of-age story about a final year high school student named Sutter, who believes in living in the moment instead of taking up responsibility of pursuing goals in life. It's a sensitively handled story about the attitude of current generation teens & their outlook on life and a heartwarming love story that in a very delicate but authentic manner covers the beauty & scariness of first love. The performances by Miles Teller & Shaileen Woodley as Sutter & Aimee respectively are very natural & their chemistry on the screen is even better as they both get a hang of each other pretty well. The direction is wonderful, the locations are exquisite, the pacing is perfect for its genre & it also manages to avoid the common trappings of a coming-of-age drama.
Overall, The Spectacular Now is a heartfelt story about growing up, love, loss & redemption that'll evoke a range of emotions from its viewers.Watch it.
