Review of The Specials (2000) by Bryan I — 12 Jul 2008
This was kind of strange. I didn't know that this would be played out in this way...no superheroics except for a VERY brief moment at the very end of the film. The characters were interesting pastiches of characters throughout the comic book universe (I found it infinitely more interesting that the married couple was more of an Hank/Jan Pym type of couple than a Reed/Sue "perfect couple" type for instance).
Takes more of a "real world" approach and also a "Behind the scenes" style approach to the characters and focuses more on the daily lives (in the vein of "Astro City", "Common Grounds", "Noble Causes", etc.) with a little bit of the goofy thrown in (in the vein of "Mystery Men").
