Review of The Special Relationship (2010) by Cory W — 31 May 2010
HBO delivers with yet another good tv-movie. Peter Morgan and Michael Sheen's Tony Blair saga continues here with "The Special Relationship", which deals with he and former President Bill Clinton's partnership over both their times in office.
The film focuses on the Clinton/Lewinski scandal, the crisis in Kosovo, and how the two leaders react to the situations. Sheen is always good as Blair, but Quaid's Clinton and Hope Davis' Hilary Clinton are what to watch.
The two are dynamic in their scenes during the scandal. Sheen has his moments during the Kosovo scenes, but the film soars during the scandal scenes. It feels at times that there was too much to cover for one movie, but I feel that they hit most of the high points.
This doesn't reach the level that "The Queen" does, but still provides an interesting and engaging experience. Overall, Sheen, Clinton, and Davis all help this movie shine, even though it never fully reaches the potential it had.
