Review of The Sound of Music (1965) by Robyn M — 15 Jul 2012
A stroke of pure cinema and musical genius by two of Hollywood's greatest musical composers Rodgers and Hammerstein, who's names have become synonymous with the Hollywood musical. From the famous opening shot of Maria daydreaming, standing arms open wide on top of a mountain singing "The Hills are alive" is Music most icon moments.
Based on a true story about the VonTrapp Family, Julie Andrews is Maria Vontrapp a witty, forceful dreamer and angelic mother figure to 7 bright and charming children. Christopher Plummer whose performance made him a household name in Films "severed himself from the Classic Music" claiming his performance as restricted and overated, . and describes Captian Vontrapp as coldhearted. A notation I agree with firmly. While the movie is endearing and beloved by most who reconnect with the songs from childhood memories.
I can't help but point out the shallow use of emotions and its lengthly consumption of my time.
