Review of The Sound of Music (1965) by Bailey H — 07 Jul 2015
I rarely give movies 5 stars, but this one would deserve 6. This film is easily my favorite of all time. I am not a fan of older movies, but when you watch this one, it is completely timeless. The great thing about The Sound of Music is that it isn't all about music--it's more about family, war, God, and learning to open up.
I have watched this film with my dad a few times before, and even he admits it was a wonderful movie, and he is NOT a fan of musicals. There is not too much music in this film, sometimes the film goes on for 10 minutes without a song.
Plus, unlike most musicals, the songs are not cheesy and do not feel forced, they are very natural, and have wonderful lyrics. The actors have beautiful voices, and every single character was complex, convincing, and just plain magical! It is one of those movies that I have watched maybe 20 times, but I still get goose bumps because some scenes are just so well filmed, and beautifully done.
You don't have to be a musical fan to fall in love with this film.
