Review of The Sound of Music (1965) by Hannah F — 24 May 2012
Simply amazing cinematography, landscapes, sets, and color are the highlights of this otherwise pretty standard big budget studio musical. The story's pretty cheesy, but does take on a darker spin towards the end, which is a nice surprise and the songs, most of them now a part of the popular conscience, are even cheesier than the cheesiest parts of the story.
I would say, were it not that it has so much to look at, this would hold little of anything for me. It's not as bad as I had built up in my head to be, but it's still not something I would ever feel the need to pop in again.
