Review of The Sound of Music (1965) by Nathan C — 02 Dec 2013
Truly a classic in its own sweet, endearing, positive, hearty way! This musical has to be one of the most enjoyable I've seen, up there with "Singin' in the Rain" and "Fiddler on the Roof".
With all of its strong, vivacious elements delivered with nothing short of passion, it is easy to see why people either love it or hate it. Even if the story does at times, the singing doesn't bear a false note as it's accompanied by great acting and winning music.
Wonderful Austrian scenery is effectively captured by the lush cinematography. A fun and lively first half mixes well with its more dramatic and suspenseful second half, making way for a solid emotional experience that at times can be a rollercoaster.
Exuding so much warmth and beauty, "The Sound of Music" is timeless!
