Review of The Sound of Music (1965) by Thomas P — 19 Mar 2014
Brilliantly memorable songs, amid perfectly pitched performances, the authentic joy seems to bubble through - an accessible musical with unusual warmth and grounding in a true story.
Hiding under the hummable tunes, engaging performances, and overall sweetness, Generations have learned what a functioning, blended family looks like, and glimpsed the true to life story of a family who escaped together under tremendous political pressure from Nazi tyranny.
It fires on all cylinders, and has resonated ever since.
Moves in and out of these effortlessly - exciting, humorous, suspenseful, sweepingly epic, wisely intimate, stunning, sweet, impacting and memorably thoughtful.
Revolutionary as family entertainment - this movie is unmatched in it's scope and reach.
Popular for good reason.
The leads spent years trying to break free from the typecasting based on the greatness of this film and their iconic roles here.
They did move on and eventually came to appreciate the full power of this film and its magic-.
Now, 50 yrs ago!
Watch it again, and be moved.
5 out of 5.
