Review of The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010) by Allen G — 24 Feb 2013
"she will remember me? Who are you, Braveheart?".
I don't know what that even means but I laughed. That's pretty much this film. It's a Disney film and I judge it as one so already my standards are low. Bearing that in my mind- this film is actually a success in my eyes.
I mean it's pretty ridiculous but that's almost a given with a kid's movie. It's no Toy Story but the script is alright and I quite liked the fight scenes etc. It made me laugh too, sure the humour was pretty cheap but the acting was good with everyone giving strong performances and the film having the right tone. Sure it was a bit of a chore to sit through at times but for the most part I had no problem watching it- most importantly, I think kids would enjoy it and that's what it's all about here- something kids will like that the parents won't hate and I don't think there's anything to hate with this one- it's a little different, certainly doesn't break-barriers, but it's interesting enough to be worth watching. It's filled with the clichés of the genre and it gets hate for that but the performances here and the charm involved bring the clichés to life and maybe it's just the kid in me but I quite enjoyed watching them thrive here.
