Review of The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010) by Jesse B — 02 Apr 2012
Hocus Pocus Alakazam ! Did I magically capture your attention?
Leave it to Disney and Co to come up with another tall tale of magic and mischief. Behold yet another story of a young geeky nerdy adolescent boy, wishing hoping and dreaming for the attention of "the pretty blonde" of corse. Here we go with the cliche's. So If it isn't Michael Cera, or Jesse Eisenberg, it has to be Jay Baruchel or some other knockoff , playing the lead role.
Well if it aint broke dont fix it, and this formula seems to be working quite well with current Hollywood trends.
Nic Cage is back in action with his buddy and Director Jerry Bruckheimer, in yet another Disney action adventure, the likes of Treasure Hunter and Prince of Persia. Nic Cage is here to save the day as Sorcerer extraordinaire.
Cage plays a character called Balthazzar Blake a centuries old magician and the last surviving apprentice of Merlin the great. (sound disney enough ? ).
This movie features some amazing special effects and dazzling action scenes, 1 right after another in fact. However its as exciting as it is dizzying and redundant.
Still I quiet enjoyed this movie for its ambition and production quality. Its very flashy and cutesy but if you can around all that, you will find a fun filled fantasy full of disney style wonderment, that gives Harry Potter a run for its money.
