Review of The Song of Bernadette (1943) by Scott R — 16 Apr 2016
This movie does a wonderful job with presenting Franz Werfel's personal account of the story of St. Bernadette of Lourdes. I think the actors, especially Jennifer Jones, Lee J. Cobb, Vincent Price, and Charles Bickford did a great job in this movie.
The movie included and made a strong point of the greatest miracle of Lourdes: Bernadette's identifying the beautiful lady she was seeing as "The Immaculate Conception." Bernadette had no idea what these words meant.
Subsequent investigation revealed that none of the priests in her parish nor any of the nuns in her school, or any of her family members, including her very intelligent aunt, had ever mention these words to her.
Since Bernadette could not possibly have made the words Immaculate Conception up, I believe she could only have gotten them from the Virgin Mary herself.
