Review of The Son of No One (2011) by Donna L — 28 Oct 2011
A gritty projects thriller set in both 1986 & one year after 9/11.
2 unsolved murders in 86 come back to haunt Jonathan White(Tatum) when he is transferred back to the Police division where they occurred.
Mysterious letters to a local newspaper threaten to reveal the murdurer & also expose those responsible for the cover up Standford & Mathers(Pacino & Liotta).
Capt Mathers is leaning on White to eliminate the problem as his own promotion & the good name of Stanford's stands to be irrepairibly tarnished.
The film much reminded me of James Mangold's Copland from the nineties as Police corruption is exposed within 118 division.
It's a broody type movie as White's family become threatened as the players will stop at nothing the prevent the truth from coming out.
Not sure about Tatum yet, this may have been a little deep for him but still gave it a good stab. You get what you come to expect from Liotta & Pacino being nothing short of professional. Binoche however is just plain obnoxious but then I guess that was the idea.
The cast from the 86 flashbacks also perfrom admirably almost providing a Stand By Me side to the story.
The ending perhaps tho is a little "convenient".
