Review of The Soloist (2009) by Craig T — 06 Feb 2010
The book: *****. The movie: not so much. In many ways, unrecognizable from the book. Such a great story, why'd they have to change it? They only took from the power of the true true story, they certainly added nothing worthwhile.
Most incomprehensible is what they thought they were gaining by turning Steve Lopez into a jerk. No, there is something worse, the scenes of slipping on his own urine and dumping coyote urine on his head.
Neither were in the book, neither are funny nor add anything. Just really, really bad. The story itself is good enough to keep it at two stars, but it is no thanks to the makers of the film.
