Review of The Soloist (2009) by Brendan C — 12 Feb 2010
The Soloist, based on a true story, plays like a made-for-tv movie. The premise is compelling - journalist uses a homeless man who happens to be a mentally challenged former Juilliard student for an excuse to do a story - but the script is often loaded with too much exposition.
Downey and Foxx are both compelling, and the movie is watchable, but not what I had hoped for. The emotional arc falls flat.
