Review of The Soloist (2009) by Justin V — 09 Jan 2012
This should be an oscar film and I haven't even seen it yet... the buzz on it was overwhelming towards the end of 2008. unfortunately, the soloist didn't live up to the hype and could've been a much stronger film.
although it was publicized that this was pushed back due to the writers' strike and the sinking economy, I wonder if it was really pushed back because it wasn't a strong film to begin with. the soloist is a film to watch strictly for performances whereas RDJ and jamie foxx are on point throughout.
the film drags and the story didn't have too much going for it. there is no clear resolution and it seems that director joe wright wanted to comment as much on america's homeless situation as much as he wanted to comment on personal redemption.
both topics are worth looking into but to opt to merely touch the surface on both left the cupboard empty. I want to say that it's worth watching but this only should be viewed if you're a fan of either or both actors.
not a huge disappointment but it certainly didn't deliver like I hoped it would...
