Review of The Social Network (2010) by Ben D — 20 Jan 2013
Bringing people together and tearing friendships apart.
The social network is a very good drama told from different perspectives keeping you engrossed as the story unravels. Jesse Eisenberg who plays former Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg is simply brilliant in this part. He never really plays his hand and consequently this helps build drama in the well constructed flashback timeline created around legal advisors discussing how facebook came to be. Social network does have flaws and mainly it's due to the simplicity of the story, it is after all based on a big Internet legal battle. However it's a deeper story than many will read into and it centres on wanting approval and almost an obsession to be cool, alongside greed and a underlining touch of cruelty. In the desperate striving to earn popularity by bringing others together all involved slowly become torn apart from one another. Well directed sharp chat, interesting If a little static topic, some fine acting, makes this rich youngsters drama defiantly worth a watch.
