Review of The Social Network (2010) by Alex M — 07 May 2013

Not sure how true this story was and how much was fictionalized, but I will admit it was highly engrossing and I was engaged all throughout the movie.

The opening scene is obnoxious but it's there to just introduce the "asshole" Max Zuckerberg, and set us up for the rest of the film. Jesse Eisenberg really sold me Zuckerberg, stellar acting even if it was quite monotone and the same all throughout, it worked very well. Andrew Garfield I had serious doubts about(soon to be peter parker) and he blew me away. Like I said, don't know how much of his "sad betrayal story" was dramatized versus what really happened, but I know whatever Andrew did, really worked and added serious depth to the movie.

David Fincher I don't generally like his indifferent attitude to everything and his movies generally look the same and have similar themes, but he really impressed me on this. The fact that he made me sit through a movie about FACEBOOK for 2 hours, and kept it thought provoking and engaging, I have to highly commend him for it.

Trent Reznor's score is memorable but not award worthy at all, not even comparable to Hans Zimmer's Inception. But I will say that it was molded just right for this story, and kept the pacing and editing very sharp..

Lastly, Armie Hammer- playing the twins! Undoubtedly the comic relief of the rather dark and moody film. But he really made me believe there were two twins, and created two separate individuals and not just a carbon copy of a twin just for the sake of movie magic.(im looking at you Resident Evil...ugh) It was really great.!

Definitely NOT the best movie of 2010, nah...but it is highly commendable and I can definitely see what the big hooplah was about now...and gladly, it's not just because of the mob mentality that "facebook is cool." The fact that the script is well written and the quality over all the facets of the film are great.

But I will say- this is not a freaking generation defining movie, unless you want to admit that our generation is FKED and obsessed with technology taking over their freedom and personal lives. thankfully, this movie did not cover that topic..but the origin of facebook(good choice)...maybe in the sequel.
