Review of The Social Network (2010) by Sebastian O — 03 Jun 2013
A good movie, though not a great one. Anchoring the movie to the deposition scenes, while telling the story mostly in flashback is an effective way to remind the audience that all POVs in the story are self aggrandizing and suspect.
Jesse Eisenberg effectively portrays an inscrutable Zuckerberg, and Fincher plays it down the middle as to what to really think of the man and his motives. Probably the greatest virtue of this movie is its impressive adherence to ambiguity.
The story is recounted, but not explained. There is enough room in the spaces in between the telling of 'what' for the audience to vigorously debate the 'why'.
