Review of The Social Network (2010) by Brianna E — 05 Dec 2013
The movie seems to be the story of how Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook while abandoning his friend and using others to achieve success, and doing it all while pretending he doesn't care about money or popularity.
However, this movie is based off the book "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, who apparently wrote the supposed-biography from the point of view of the people who seem to have good reason to dislike Zuckerberg as they are some of the people that floundered when Zuckerberg flourished.
I'm not sure how much is actually believable, but I do like the roundness of the story. At the beginning when Zuckerberg is dumped, his ex-girlfriend tells him that girls will dislike him because he is an asshole.
At the end of the story, one of the lawyers tells him that he isn't an asshole, he is only trying to be one. It's an interesting thought to process, as during the movie we are wondering if he really is the jerk he plays, or if he is just playing a jerk because that is the thing to do? While this isn't a favorite movie of mine, and isn't one I would typically make time to watch(was for a school assignment), it was decently good and an interesting take on one of the most popular things to hit the world.
