Review of The Snowman (2017) by Joe K — 27 Oct 2017
The Snowman: one of the most disappointing films I have ever watched since Green Lantern, which I like more than Batman & Robin but hate more than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But that's besides the point.
I found The Snowman to be the most boring detective story I have ever seen. It wastes the talents of great actors such as Michael Fassbender, the editing can be done poorly at times, the mystery barely feels present, the ending feels abrupt ("I solved the case.
I'mma solve another one"), the showdown between our protagonist and the killer feels rather anticlimactic and much like the aforementioned X-Men Origins, many secondary characters only appear twice.
Oh, what's that? Want me to bash it some more? Sure. The opening scene immediately helps us figure out who the killer is despite not even knowing what he looks like as an adult, a few flashback scenes seem utterly pointless - Val Kilmer made a return to acting for this? - and I hardly cared for most of the characters.
The only good thing coming out of this thrill-free thriller is the cinematography. That's it, nothing more. A film I regret seeing because of the convoluted nature of its plot.
