Review of The Snowman (2017) by Christina H — 03 Jan 2018
The worst movie I personally saw in 2017, and simultaneously one of the ones with the most potential to work with, which only makes it all the more of a disappointment. The cast here is amazing, but the editing is choppy, the storyline turned into a mess, and, while the director clearly did his best, you could tell while watching it that the production here was rushed far beyond the point of being reasonable.
I read somewhere that things were rushed so much that a sizable chunk of the script wasn't even filmed to have the option for use in editing and, to be honest, it shows, since it's hard to imagine a professional film crew being this clumsy in creating the final product otherwise.
The book is brilliant, and the cast definitely would have been capable of delivering brilliance on screen, so I kinda suspect that this clunker is owed mostly to the studio and such. It's a real shame too, in a year that really could have used a strong crime thriller.
