Don't get confused, while watching "The Snapper", you will meet the same Rabbitte family as in "The Commitments". A different studio, and the fact that the production studio of the first movie owns the rights of the name "Rabbitte", forced them to rename the family Curley. We can ignore that fact.

Sharon, Dessie Curley's (aka Jimmy Rabbitte, snr.) oldest daughter confesses her pregnancy. Her catholic parents are not delighted, but arrange themselves with the situation. The only thing they hate is, that Sharon refuses to tell them the name of the father. And soon all her friends, and Dessie's friends start to speculate.

Sharon claims that it is a Spanisch Sailor, and she does not know his name. But Mr. Burgees, their neighbour starts acting funny and soon everyone is sure that he is involved with Sharon somehow.

The most hilarious and most touching scenes in this movies happen between father and daughter. Scenes of love and truth. They have a wonderful way to treat each other. Uncomplicated and straightforward.

"Dessie Curley: I haven't cried since I was a kid.

Sharon Curley: You cried during the World Cup.

Dessie Curley: Sober, Sharon! Sober!".

"Sharon Curley: Why won't you talk to me anymore?

Dessie Curley: I do talk to you!

Sharon Curley: You don't.

Dessie Curley: Yes, I do! I said 'hello' to you yesterday!".

"Dessie Curley: You should have told us about it BEFORE you got pregnant. We could have done something THEN!".
