Review of The Snake Pit (1948) by Adrian B — 21 Aug 2010
A bit of an oddity of a film this is, focused on mainly a mental patient, played very well by Olivia de Havilland. It shows the ugly activities that go on behind the walls of the asylum and it is quite frightening, but it seems a little over done.
It also show what has impacted Olivia de Havilland's character and made her a bit crazy. A interesting look at mentally disturbed human beings. Note: Natalie Schaefer from the TV series "Giligan's Island" plays de Havilland's mom when she was little and Heriss, the mainly quiet woman in the mental institution, is played Betsy Blair, who plays a plain girl in the Best Picture winner "Marty" and was one of Gene Kelly's wives.
