Review of The Smurfs (2011) by Steve B — 08 Jan 2012
This movie has been like a strange splinter feeling in my head since last year when I went to France for a holiday with my Girlfriend and family. At this time this movie was doing the rounds in the cinemas in France and under the different and amusing name of 'Schrumphtrumps' or something of the kind.
It's been a lasting joke since and so seemed quite fitting to see this with my partner. 'Barney' from the US TV series, 'How I Met Your Mother' is the main guy along with his pregnant Girlfriend/Wife.
This couple get lumbered with meeting the little fellas and decide to help them out and not freak out. The evil sorcerer in the movie was like a bendy, bald Clive Owen with make-up and prosthetics and was a little pathetic.
I think his cat stole the show personally. A little song and dance act in the movie for The Smurfs puts it up there with 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' but the rest is just a good lighthearted bit of fantasy fun.
Does leave you wanting to use the word 'Smurf' in everything and start using their annoying but catchy tune around your daily routines.
