Review of The Smurfs (2011) by Dee R — 17 Jun 2012
This is a great movie for families with younger kids. My 6 year old loved it. For my child this movie served up big heaping helpings of deep belly laughter. It is a real fun kids movie. Don't get me wrong, this is no deep, well developed piece of art; this movie is not going to get any awards.
But for the genre (Family/Kids movie) it was spot on. Its not on caliber with PIXAR stuff by any means (it is purly directed to entertain kids) but it is enjoyable from begining to end. The Smurfy humor is mildly creative, the story is esay to follow and even a little creative.
One wonderfully big surprise is H. Azaria as Gargamel; His performance stole the show. The character and his protrail was the perfect funny/goofy bad guy for the Smurfs and for a kid's movie. I found myself wanting to see more of Gargamel's antics.
For those who are are still a kid at heart or who love to see there litte children laugh and have a great time, this is a movie that is well worth the price of admission.
