Review of The Smurfs 2 (2013) by Scott P — 10 Aug 2013
This film wasn't better than I expected, but it also wasn't worse. It seemed fairly on par with the first film, in that it had a few good one liners and slapstick gags, but ultimately it was a fairly simple tale that's really good for kids and fans, but likely not for the average movie goer.
I did like the theme of family in this film, and how it explored the theme of building families and bringing other people into them, dealing with Smurfette being adopted into the Smurfs, Harris's character Patrick dealing with his own step father, and the terrible family dynamic of Gargamel and his newly created "naughties" children.
I thought that was a good back bone for this film.
