Review of The Sleeping Dictionary (2003) by Ian M — 23 Mar 2007
Again, this a film I saw last summer. One of Jessica Alaba's film you may not be aware of and the male lead is Hugh Dancy (Kinf Arthur, Blood and Chocolate, which I still want to see).
The film is abpout John Truscott, a young British man from the upper class who is sent to Sarawak (Malaysaia) is 1939 I believe to civilize the natives.
There, he meets Selima (Alba), a native, who, as is customary, he is meant to sleep with, and she is meant to teach him the local language.
One day John meets his "boss" Henry's (Bob Hoskins) daughter Cecil (Emily Mortimer and they eventually marry. But thruth be told, John is in love with Selima and he has to make a choice, give up everything he knows and pur Selima in very real danger just to be with her, or settle for a life he does not want?
Brenda Blethyn also has a small part.
And I left out some juicy bits on purpose. Definitely check this one out.
