Review of The Slammin' Salmon (2009) by Bobby L — 12 Apr 2010
Broken Lizard's latest, which, rather unfortunately had, barely had a theatrical release. Did I miss something here? While they never were huge successes, their movies always did respectable business, so when exactly were they declared DTDVD fodder?
With that little diatribe aside, this is one of their best efforts. Michael Clarke Duncan as the owner/ former boxer of the restaurant of the title, plays dumb and never understanding it rather perfectly. The usual Broken Lizard gang is here, but they also have help from Colbie Smulders, aka Robin from "How I Met Your Mother", and that was rather awesome.
As per their usual, this movie takes an extremely absurd idea and treats with such seriousness that all you can do is laugh. The comedy comes fast and quick, and aside from one poop joke that lasts too long (although it is integral to the plot), they don't really indulge in the lowbrow stupidity that was on display during their last effort, Beerfest.
While not entirely perfect, definitely up there with Super Troopers and just beneath Club Dread. Glad to see them back, even if it is more or less direct-to-DVD.
