Review of The Slammin' Salmon (2009) by Grifty G — 17 Apr 2010
Broken Lizard has always been a bright spot in terms of indie comedy films. They offer something new to break up the monotony of comedic films today. With the exception of Club Dread and Puddle Cruiser I have had the privilege of seeing all their movies up to this date. That statement continues with the release of their new movie The Slammin? Salmon.
The plot itself is nothing to brag about. A former heavyweight boxer (Michael Clarke Duncan) needs his restaurant to make $20,000 in one night in order to pay back the leader of the Yakuza. The waiter who earns the most money will receive $10,000 and the waiter who sells the least will receive a broken rib sandwich from Duncan.
Many people have given this movie a negative review, but I personally thought it was hilarious. The first half of the movie does start a little slow, however, once everything is established the jokes start rolling in. Each member of the Broken Lizard troupe gives a good performance, especially Paul Soter playing twin brothers. The surprise performance in this movie comes from two people that are not apart of the troupe. Michael Clarke Duncan plays his brawn-over-brain character in amazing fashion. He personally offers many memorable quotes throughout the movie and definitely can portray an intimidating figure. The other impressive performance is given by Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother). She offers a human element to the comedic insanity allowing us to return to reality if only for a few moments.
I suggest you go out and rent this movie and see for yourself whether or not it?s for you. Don?t expect this movie to be contain any groundbreaking humor, but it?s well worth a few laughs.
