Squirm-inducing to say the least, but making this audience member feel uncomfortable isn't what makes great films. The poster makes it look like a demented Nip Tuck, which isn't that far off with some black comedy elements chucked in.
Unfortunately, this medical horror melodramatic tragedy doesn't really delve into its characters well enough. It also plods a bit (and I've noticed this with a few other Almodovar films) and gets carried away with the arthouse side of things, thus felt 'WTF?' in parts.
The performances are uniformally excellent (apart from young Norma) and past the twist, there is replay value but, to me, it wasn't the best foreign language film of 2011 (which is still A Separation).
Interesting in a extremely warped way, but lacking in emotional involvement.
