Review of The Skin I Live In (2011) by Ant K — 10 Dec 2013
I'm not sure words can accurately describe the narrative to the film THE SKIN I LIVE IN (Pedro Almodovar, Sony Pictures Classic, 2011). It is dark and twisted, beautiful and eloquent and completely and utterly compelling.
Almodovar masterfully crafts a film which shatters our established concepts in regards to the boundaries of our sexuality. Basically he tells us there are no more boundaries. Or maybe we were mistaken to believe they ever truly existed.
Regardless the film is beautiful, sumptuously shot and painstakingly composed. The film is full of great art direction containing rich and deep colors and bold production design. Mark the contrast between the cold and unfeeling sterility of Robert's (Antonio Banderas) operating theatre and the striking beauty and warmth provided by Vicente/Vera (Jan Cornet/Elena Anaya).
This film is beauty. Words can't express.
