Review of The Skin I Live In (2011) by Vishal K — 09 Feb 2014
A great unique art house psychological horror movie, you just don't realise it's a horror movie till much lateron. It has one of the best subversive twists in the history of film because it completely changes how we view the characters and also it challenges our morality which is so difficult to do.
While there was a slight lull in the middle it is well worth persevering with it because it's in my opinion it's Almidovar's most rewarding, albeit for making us feel extremely unsettled by the end.
I hope I'm not giving out away but the use of nudity and a supremely attractive lead actress is important to the story & when you see the revelation coming you'll understand why. Usually actors say they only do nudity because the script needs it & you roll your eyes, this film is the exception.
