Review of The Skin I Live In (2011) by Michael L — 13 Jan 2017
One of Almodovar's weakest films in a decade. This film purports to be about so much but it is empty and banal. Too slick for it's own good, THE SKIN I LIVE IN, instead of being a comment on films like VERTIGO and EYES WITHOUT A FACE, instead becomes a very poor remake of both.
Bad performances from far too many of the leads, especially Elena Anaya, totally destroys any subtext. Once again, Almodovar proves how tame and middle-class he truly is despite all the kink on screen.
Is anyone actually shocked by any of this anymore?
