Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by Bill B — 08 Oct 2014
Great performances all round in a film that has to walk a number of tightropes; not too funny vs not to sad vs not too clichéd vs not too unstructured. Both Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader manage to make their characters very likeable even though their actions are sometimes (very) flawed.
Hader particularly shows the gross caricature of 'Stephon' on SNL is just that, and that he can 'dial-down' his portrayal of a gay man into something that has some truth. Luke Wilson is also perfectly cast and gives an understated, nuanced performance.
The ending feels a little trite and feels rushed hence 4 rather than 5 stars but other than that it's a great little film.
