Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by Joshua M — 07 Nov 2014
At its core, this movie is PURE emotional violence. This may be a surprisingly description given who stars in this movie. You'd be justified in making assumptions on the tone of this one based on its two leads and their shared work experience.
It's rare for a comedian to make the jump from comedy to tragedy without a few bumps. On the one hand, Hader and Wiig clearly relied on their time together on SNL to create the bond of their characters, whom they both disappear into almost completely.
If this does not signal bigger, less genre-confined roles for them, I'm not sure what will. Was it perfect? No. But to say this would be both a departure and an elevation for Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig would be an understatement.
