Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by Akash S — 03 Feb 2015
The movie is shot quite well; good angles and colors. The performances are excellent, the direction is commendable. The screenplay is its weak aspect. The clichéd, under-developed sub-plots - caring for an old fling/ molester, having and affair - don't add anything new or intriguing to the characters, hence doesn't let us feel/care enough for them.
With the initial scenes of failed suicide attempts and childhood flashbacks, the movie seemed to have so much potential, but by the time the movie ends, you can't help but feel how brilliant it could have been with a better script. I feel sad for the wasted potential here.
And the deadpan tone of the film makes it seems unnecessarily too gloomy; it's as if the characters are stuck in eternal misery. I liked the lip-synced song they perform.
In 2014, in my opinion, 'This Is Where I Leave You' is a more heartfelt and hilarious movie about siblings than this one.
