Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by Chris B — 05 Jan 2015
The Skeleton Twins is the single most poignant movie that I have seen this year. It is the movie that should be talked about the most, but was largely ignored. Starring Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, the film focuses on a pair of siblings, both of whom are dealing with thoughts of suicide when their lives didn't turn out the way they wanted.
The film deals with very heavy subject matter, even aside from suicide and can be hard to watch at teams, but it never feels heavy handed. Everything feels genuine, thanks to simple direction and a focus on excellent performances from the films leads.
There are moments of humour, but they mainly act to further the feeling of realism. If you can handle a darker film, Skeleton Twins should be at the top of your list. 4 out of 5 stars.
