Review of The Skeleton Key (2005) by John P — 06 Oct 2009
This film really gets to me...I think mostly because it really is a 'thinking man's' kind of film. Set perfectly in the bayous of Louisiana, not too far from New Orleans, there is a mystery yet to be solved Kate Hudson, who plays a nurse is hired to take care of an aging man played by John Hurt who can not utter a word since his stroke and his wife, played by the wonderful Gene Rowlands, keeps a tight leach on him.
There's something not right and Kate will go as far as she has to to find the truth. I don't really want to give away too much, but I will say is after the film is over you really need to review what really happened.
..it is only then when the shocking truth is revealed...something I believe many viewers miss or are too lazy to conclude, thus the film would fall short, but the true realization for me at the end of this film equates to high marks as I find the writers intention to be truly brilliant.
Some jokes can be long and drawn out, but with the right punch line you'll laugh your ass off...The Skeleton Key is one awesome joke that delivers one powerful punch!
