Review of The Sisters Brothers (2018) by William B — 24 Oct 2018
This is not a good movie. This is a great movie. One of the best I've even seen. Here's why:
It is a classic tale. Beautifully written and adapted for the big screen. The language is Shakespearean in tone, but yet well set in America's west of the 1850's.
The acting is brilliant. The ensemble of actors plays off each other as does light off a prism. So many colors, yet sourced from the same bright light. The source in this case, is of course, again the story. Not that I'm partial of course, but John's performance should be a "must see" for all aspiring actors. He can say so much with only a few lines because his face reflects what those few lines imply.
I also think the directing was world class. As was the editing. As was the cinematography. And as a musician, I'm particular sensitive to the score. It complimented the story line without getting in the way of the story itself.
