Review of The Sisterhood of Night (2015) by Bethany C — 29 Apr 2015
I don't know if I would quite qualify this movie as horror in the traditional sense. It's a drama, it's suspenseful, but I don't know that it's horror. That being said, it's a great movie. It does give the viewer a sense of dread, a sense of sickness as to what is truly going on. But all in all, I was able to predict that in the end the "sisterhood" was nothing sinister. As stated, it was a drama, not a horror.
That all being said, as a drama it works spectacularly. It's a great film about teenagers that takes teenagers seriously, and takes their problems and their lives seriously. It's a film that shows teenage girls as people with complex lives and emotions. It shows the dangers of the internet as well as its victories, shows the reality of cyber bullying in a way that is not only fresh but also avoids seeming like an after school special. All in all, I believe it was a fantastic film. The only reason it's losing a star is because if you look at it as a horror film, it fails to scare.
