Review of The Single Moms Club (2014) by Kadeem S — 15 Mar 2014
Tyler Perry's " The Single Mom's Club" is a cute chick flick with some funny moments. I think that Tyler Perry should consider not being an actor in some of his films...this film might have benefitted from that.
The simple story was cute. The problem is that it still felt like it was too simplified for the complicated lives these four women had...it was like looking through it from an ideal standpoint only scratching the surface, without understanding women's choices, or recognizing their past mistakes and accomplishments.
I felt the drama in their lives isn't something women haven't seen before but I felt that most women don't end up with such happy endings, and that these women didn't deal with real life obstacles.
For example: a child doing drugs, alcohol, or having autism. I'm not saying it is not difficult being a single mother and dealing with finances, dating, and everyday life. It is nice that these four women meet and bond over their difficulties.
So these women decide to form The Single Mom's Club so Single mothers can bond & help each other out. This is fine and dandy but it turns that having a man in their lives ends up being the solution.
How about the Single Mom's who don't have a partner in life? I thought for a moment one of the women was going reveal she was gay adding to the storyline but even that turned into a joke. It is a cute chick flick with funny moments.
..but don't expect a lot of depth.
